DIY Tile Kitchen Backsplash — Worth the Savings?
We are building a new home and are considering doing the travertine backsplash ourselves. I did get an estimate from the guy who did our tile floors, but the bid came back for 0 labor and 0 for materials.
Is this a simple DIY project or should I just hire the sub? I don’t have a lot of time and would only be about to work on it in the evenings for 5-6 hours at a time until finished.
Can someone with no tiling experience (but has the help of people that have done tile) get this done and be happy they did it? I’ve painted the whole house successfully but decided that a painter would have been worth the cost. I don’t want to try and undertake this and wish I hadn’t — any advice?
The design I was planning on was a contemporary, simple, brick pattern. Probably 6×12 or 8×12 tiles.
Do I need Backer Board when installing tiles for a kitchen backsplash?
Currently the wall is finished and painted and we want to install tile to update the look.
If we install tile with backer board, I have a feeling the tiles going to stick out a lot.
Is backer board necessary or can I scruff up the painted wall, add the thinset and place the tile?
Do I need a sheet of membrane behind the thinset and tile or is this mainly for bathrooms?
Can I use unglazed Porcelain Tile for backsplash?
I am planning to do my kitchen backsplash and when I came to Lowes they carry a lot of beautiful unglazed porcelain tles but not many glazed ones. I wonder if we could use these unglazed tiles and seal them with sort of sealers. Can I do that? Could you recommend some sealers to use?
Thanks.
Kitchen backsplash ideas?
I guess it’s technically the wall splash since the tile does go about 8 inches up the wall. It’s a new house, kitchen and living room are like one big room. The living room is a light tan/almost peachy in the afternoon, with white plantation shutters and molding. The kitchen has light oak cabinets with white appliances and light tan tiles looks like travertine. I would like the style to be kind of Americana/cape cod or a southwestern feel. We tried a deep brick red and it’s way to dark…what color or any other ideas on inexpensive backsplash materials?
For the kitchen counterop, can I use the granite slab also for backsplash?
We are in process of replacing kitchen counter-top with granite slab. Is it okay to replace the back-splash also with granite slab? Is that normal trend? what are advantages and disadvantages of using granite slab for back-splash instead of using tile.
Repeat question: can I the granite slab, be cut, and used on the back-wall in the kitchen? granite slabs are 3/4" in thickness.
Contractor is advising use same granite slab on counter top and back-wall, instead of using back-splash tiles. Is this technically okay?
Kitchen Backsplash Tiles?
Is Tumble stones tiles a good selection for a kitchen backsplash and if so how often does it need to be sealed?
I want to re-tile the backsplash on my kitchen…there are horozontally laid one inch white tiles there now?
I want to make a design diagonally with white and blue tiles probably 4 inch. Can someone give me a brief overview of what I need to do stepwise to make this happen?
Kitchen Backsplash?
Having HomeDepot install the countertops. Do I install the tile backsplash before they do that or after.
Also can i Install the tiles on the backsplash on the wile straight or do i need to put some sort or hardibacker over it first. If i do this wont the backsplash stick out too much?
Thanks for any help
what color to paint a kitchen with forest green backsplash tiles?
We are buying a home! I really don’t know what to do with kitchen though! Kitchen has white and forest green tiles under the cabinets in between the countertops. The cabinets are a dark brown wood and the floor is a light tan tile. Countertops are a lighter/sage green laminate. White appliances The room is painted white. Please help me pick what color paint would go in there?!
