Do I need Backer Board when installing tiles for a kitchen backsplash?

Currently the wall is finished and painted and we want to install tile to update the look.

If we install tile with backer board, I have a feeling the tiles going to stick out a lot.
Is backer board necessary or can I scruff up the painted wall, add the thinset and place the tile?
Do I need a sheet of membrane behind the thinset and tile or is this mainly for bathrooms?

Would texture stone spray paint be to flammable to use on backsplash and wall around my oven in my kitchen?

I want to spray over the tile on the wall . Make it look textured. But I do not want to catch my house on fire when I want to cook a couple days after it dries. Does anyone know if textured stone spray paint is highly flammable or not ?

what color granite tiles / backsplash would look best for countertops in my kitchen?

my cabinets are creamy white, not bright white. a couple more questions also…

my appliances are white, but would stainless look better, since they donut really match the white of the cabinets?

the floor is an older whitish with blue veining tile. We will be chancing this too, but what would look good.. a darker tile or stay lighter? Would a laminate wood floor look good>? I have seen some that look really good now a’days? thanks for any tips!

Tiling of kitchen backsplash Ideas?

I am installing 4.5" x 4.5" porcelain tiles on a drywall kitchen backsplash. Applying Omnigrip mastic using a 1/4" x 3/16" vnotch trowel. The tiles have a waffle grid pattern on the back which is about 1/16" deep. I tested the application of one tile and noticed that the mastic did not fill all the waffle depressions. Are they supposed to be all filled? DO I have to backbutter the tiles? Am I using the correct trowel size? Please help!
P.S. What is the purpose of the waffle pattern in the first place?

Kitchen backsplash ideas?

I guess it’s technically the wall splash since the tile does go about 8 inches up the wall. It’s a new house, kitchen and living room are like one big room. The living room is a light tan/almost peachy in the afternoon, with white plantation shutters and molding. The kitchen has light oak cabinets with white appliances and light tan tiles looks like travertine. I would like the style to be kind of Americana/cape cod or a southwestern feel. We tried a deep brick red and it’s way to dark…what color or any other ideas on inexpensive backsplash materials?

Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas :TILING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH?

THIS IS MY FIRST TILING PROJECT. I AM INSTALLING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH ON SHEETROCK USING 4.5" X 4.5" PORCELAIN TILES. USING OMNIGRIP MASTIC APPLIED WITH A 1/4" X 3/16" V-NOTCH TROWEL. THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE PATTERN BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS, WHICH ARE ABOUT 1/16" DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO PLACING TILE IN THE COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?
THANKS!
