Kitchen backsplash ideas:Decorating and Furniture – color for walls?

We are looking for suggestions for wall color and we aren’t afraid of color (liking the deep & luxurious family of colors by CIL), although we don’t know exactly what are our style is?? We are in a fairly new home with white baseboards and ceiling; the floors are a light oaky laminate. We have an open concept with our living room, dining room and kitchen, and all these rooms get a lot of sunlight. I attempted to attach a picture of these rooms as well, but was unable.

tertops are a lighter grey with some speckles. Our appliances are stainless steel. Our current kitchen table is a light pine (do you see the trend here?). Our living room furniture is a dark burgundy leather couch, sage green chaise and dark brown coffee/end tables.
We would like to have an accent wall (long wall connecting living to dining room) and we like either the Pepper Spice or Cigar brown by CIL. What would be a good color to use on other walls? Do you have any other color combination suggestions? Also, would it work if I used the accent wall color on the kitchen backsplash ideas as well?
thanks,

What should I do about my kitchen back splash?

My husband and are about to embark on remodeling our kitchen. We plan on keeping our cabinets and painting them white since they’re in decent condition. However, we started ripping the laminate backsplash (original to the house) and it started peeling off some of the drywall paper. Photo here: http://i151.photobucket.com/albums/s160/mcleary496/IMG_3657.jpg

Now it’s all yellowed and it’s an uneven surface. We have no idea what to do. Our only idea at this point is rip the rest off, skimcoat, sand and wallpaper over it with a faux tile wallapaper.

We really want to tile, but we’re not sure if we can tile over plain drywall if we decide to take down the upper cabinets and replace the yellow-glued drywall. Should we use cement board instead? Or what are our other options here? Some good ideas would be great!

(and by "ripping" off the rest, I mean using an iron to soften the glue and peel it off the wall with less damage)

White kitchen cabinets…?

I would like to create a cozy coffee cafe theme (simple, not busy) in my kitchen. I have stark white cabinets (that will stay). The only thing I found is the fabric for the roman shade I am making for the window… it is a brown marble background with bluish/teal 5" coffee cups throughout. I have white appliances.

My flooring is tile, light carmel/ tan color (may replace, but at a later date). The current countertop is forest green laminate (replacing), and white walls.
I would like to paint the walls a shade lighter than the bluish teal coffee cups with a darker rag wash on top so its not so "in your face". Then do a 1" square tile glass backsplash using a collection of beige-brown-chocholate colored mixed tiles with a few bluish/teal throw in to bring it all together.

Here is my question: I have no idea what to with the countertops. High Def WilsonArt Laminate (fossilrock), brushed stainless steel, copper with a patina finish.

Should I change the flooring out, if so w/what

Area between counter backsplash to counter?

I am soon remodeling our kitchen by removing the existing solid wood 60’s kitchen cabinets and old warped laminate countertops. Currently no back splash. When we bought the house, the idiot before us put sticky FLOOR tile between the counter and bottom of wall cabinets. When we tried to remove it, it caused the wall to chip from the backing (drywall or whatever it was). We are now putting in new cabinets and finally countertops with a backsplash. What can I put between the backsplash and bottom of wall cabinets with the chipped drywall? Replace with drywall or can I use the same laminate for the counters on the wall to protect against water, splashes, etc.? I’m spending close to 5k already and wanted to do a nice job but not pay a lot to do this.
