Granite kitchen countertop with ceramic tile backsplash?

I have taffy-colored kitchen cabinets with a beige 3" X 3" ceramic backsplash. I’d like to update my present beige laminate countertop with a dark brown or beige granite countertop. Should I keep the beige backsplash or change it to match the granite countertop? My kitchen floor is beige tile and matches the present backsplash. Also, what color for the granite – dark brown or beige?

what are my legal rights in this situation and what should i do?

so, i hired a contractor to remodel the kitchen and bathroom at my condo down in florida, and everything has gone incredibly wrong. he has cut the main phone line coming in so i have no phone and no internet. he has a mess of wires (all spliced together with bare wire showing) taped under the kitchen cabinets with painter’s tape, not even electrical tape. i gave him ,000 up front to buy supplies (faucets, medicine cabinets, backsplashes in the kitchen, etc), yet he hasn’t purchased any of the supplies and now i am spending my whole vacation running around to every home depot, lowes, and plumbing store looking for these items. and also, in the contract, it clearly states that he will be done by the end of february 2010, it is now the middle of april 2010 and he is no where near being done, but is still wanting to me to keep giving him checks. i have given him ,000 so far, and have nothing to show for it because his work looks like crap.
my sister said we could take him to court…but i was just wondering if i really could. if so, what would i say in court? and what rights do i have that he has gone against that would warrant going to court? in this situation, what do you think i should do?

Installing horizontal windows above kitchen cabinets?

We’re in the intial process of designing/updating our kitchen. In addition to new granite countertops, natural stone tile backsplashes and refacing cabinets, we’re considering options to bring in more natural light. Vaulting the ceiling and installing skylights is one possible alternative, but a less expensive option may be installing horizontal windows above the existing kitchen cabinets. While we’ve seen this done in new homes to good effect, its been difficult to find examples of it done as a remodel option. Does anyone have experience with this or know if its a feasible option? For reference, there is 26" of vertical space between the top of the cabinet molding and the kitchen ceiling.

Can you help me coordinate kitchen colors?

Kitchen cabinets-White

Floor- beige tile (sorry no samples right now)

Countertop- LG HI-MACS in Tambora or Casera

Walls- Behr Sagey or Mother Nature

Backsplash- http://www.wholesalersusainc.com/cristezza-mosaic-classic-irish-meadow-p-1885.html or http://www.wholesalersusainc.com/giorbello-crystal-glass-solids-light-willow-p-1382.html.

Rest of the main floor is Behr Brown Harvest with light green and maroon accents. Also looking to paint the half bath on the same floor, should I paint it the same as the kitchen or any other ideas?

Thanks!

I need help picking out paint colors, back splash and window treatments for a sliding glass door.?

I have no idea what color combinations to go with in my kitchen & dining room. They are connected & open like one large room with the counter/bar seperating them. My kitchen cabinets are oak with formica countertop in a Natural Canvas (creamy beige) and natural hickory wood floors. I don’t have a theme but I do have roosters around only because I like the colors; the reds, green, beige, purple & blues. I like sage green & terra cotta would they work together? The walls also need texture.
The backsplash; should I try to match it with the counter or the cabinets? I like the pressed tin or stone type tile squares.
What type of draperies should I go with for the sliding glass doors? I hate to loose the view completely; its nothing but acres of woods behind our house; totally private with the exception of deer, squirrels & a woodpecker that visit.

Area between counter backsplash to counter?

I am soon remodeling our kitchen by removing the existing solid wood 60’s kitchen cabinets and old warped laminate countertops. Currently no back splash. When we bought the house, the idiot before us put sticky FLOOR tile between the counter and bottom of wall cabinets. When we tried to remove it, it caused the wall to chip from the backing (drywall or whatever it was). We are now putting in new cabinets and finally countertops with a backsplash. What can I put between the backsplash and bottom of wall cabinets with the chipped drywall? Replace with drywall or can I use the same laminate for the counters on the wall to protect against water, splashes, etc.? I’m spending close to 5k already and wanted to do a nice job but not pay a lot to do this.
