Do you like travertine or marble for a backsplash?

I’m putting in a kitchen backsplash. What do you prefer…a matte beige travertine or a polished beige marble?

Can I use unglazed Porcelain Tile for backsplash?

I am planning to do my kitchen backsplash and when I came to Lowes they carry a lot of beautiful unglazed porcelain tles but not many glazed ones. I wonder if we could use these unglazed tiles and seal them with sort of sealers. Can I do that? Could you recommend some sealers to use?

Thanks.

Need a fair contractor quote?

I have a 110 square foot kitchen and I am planning on remodeling. In a nutshell, this is what I am doing:

Demo of existing cabinets
Tiling of floor including kitchen backsplash
Installation of Ikea Cabinets
Installation of 3 outlets and increase electric to 20 amps
plaster ceiling imperfections
sanding ceiling and exposed walls
installation of microwave and dishwasher

Current contractor wants to do it for 00 and I feel its too much

That’s it in a nutshell. what would a fair quote be for that job in the nyc metro area? Thanks!

Tiling of kitchen backsplash Ideas?

I am installing 4.5" x 4.5" porcelain tiles on a drywall kitchen backsplash. Applying Omnigrip mastic using a 1/4" x 3/16" vnotch trowel. The tiles have a waffle grid pattern on the back which is about 1/16" deep. I tested the application of one tile and noticed that the mastic did not fill all the waffle depressions. Are they supposed to be all filled? DO I have to backbutter the tiles? Am I using the correct trowel size? Please help!
P.S. What is the purpose of the waffle pattern in the first place?

Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas :Tumbled Travertine Backsplash?

Hi,
I just installed 4X4 light colored tumbled travertine on my kitchen backsplash. I love the hole and voids in the stone. I have since read that the holes should not be left open in a kithen area due to things growing in the holes. I have 1/8" grout lines and I was sold sanded grout but have since read not to use sanded grout. I have also read that a latex additive will stain the grout. So, my question is. Sanded grout or not. Latex or not. Your advise would be much appreciated to clear up some of my confusion. Thanks

Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas :TILING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH?

THIS IS MY FIRST TILING PROJECT. I AM INSTALLING A KITCHEN BACKSPLASH ON SHEETROCK USING 4.5" X 4.5" PORCELAIN TILES. USING OMNIGRIP MASTIC APPLIED WITH A 1/4" X 3/16" V-NOTCH TROWEL. THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE PATTERN BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS, WHICH ARE ABOUT 1/16" DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO PLACING TILE IN THE COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?
THANKS!

Kitchen Backsplash Tiles?

Is Tumble stones tiles a good selection for a kitchen backsplash and if so how often does it need to be sealed?

Kitchen Backsplash Ideas?

What are some good DIY ideas for a kitchen backsplash? I’m looking for something that is also budget friendly and fairly easy to install, but will add some value to my kitchen. I was originally looking at "tin" paneling, but can’t quite find a good color match. I have antique brass light fixtures and cabinet knobs / drawer pulls and black appliances. There is currently no backsplash. Any suggestions?

Tin Backsplashes in the kitchen?

I am considering a backsplash made from tin tiles usually used for ceilings. I wanted something pretty and I thought about ceramic tile, but a lot of people have that and frankly I didn’t want the mess and expense of installing one. I found a tin ceiling manufacturer online. Does anyone have any comments or experience with using tin ceiling tiles as a kitchen backsplash?

Thanks!
I’ve priced tile versus ceramic and ceramic (including backer board and grout) is much more expensive. The ceiling tiles do not require grout or backer board. I can install the tin tiles for under 0.

The tiles are also coated to protect against rust and are finished so they are not shiney, but are white while still maintaining the tin ceiling look.

The more I think about them the more excited I am to try it out. For less than 0 if it is something I do not like I can easily change it later without feeling too guilty about the money I’ve spent.

Thanks for you ideas!!
