Installing horizontal windows above kitchen cabinets?

We’re in the intial process of designing/updating our kitchen. In addition to new granite countertops, natural stone tile backsplashes and refacing cabinets, we’re considering options to bring in more natural light. Vaulting the ceiling and installing skylights is one possible alternative, but a less expensive option may be installing horizontal windows above the existing kitchen cabinets. While we’ve seen this done in new homes to good effect, its been difficult to find examples of it done as a remodel option. Does anyone have experience with this or know if its a feasible option? For reference, there is 26" of vertical space between the top of the cabinet molding and the kitchen ceiling.

which granite transformation countertop color?

ok, everyone has been a big help so here goes…i just put in brazilian teak floors and painted cabinets cream color…put in stainless appliances that are still showing some black…i’m picking the granite countertops through granite transformations…picked ‘terra ombra’ which is brown, black, cream specks…any suggestions if this may be too dark? i have a small kitchen but a sliding glass door and decent light. thanks again…oh, doing 4×4 cream tiles as backsplash to keep it simple…

What size tiles for kitchen backsplash?

Just painted my cabinets cream color, installed stainless appliances, a brazilian teak floor and black/brownish granite countertops. What size tiles for the backsplash? I don’t want a big statement, just simple cream tiles. Thanks

What color tile for my kitchen backsplash?

I have granite countertops that are black with a salmon pink marble look to it. Currently my tile backsplash is a light green, which doesn’t match at all. I’m not sure what color to go with.

My walls are painted a khaki color and the cabinets are a very light wood.

I'm remodeling my kitchen & need opinions on cabinets!?

I’m finally getting rid of my 1961 kitchen and can’t make up my mind! I have hard oak floors throughout the house..including the dining room which is open to the kitchen. I’d like to put in cork floors (& be somewhat "green" in my remodeling) in the kitchen and think it would blend nice with the oak floors (unless someone thinks of something else?) I can’t decide what would look better..maple or natural cherry cabinets. The kitchen is only 10×13 and will be putting in 40" cabinets since I have a cathedral ceiling…does cherry and oak clash? Too much natural wood tones going on? I’d like to put a apron front / farm sink in, granite countertops and tin backsplash..those I do know I want… I need a professional designer but that’s definately not in the budget. All opinions and suggestions are welcome….I have to order cabinets within 2 weeks!!! Thanks All !!
I can’t go too modern with a house full of antiques..i’m in the country and am shooting for a modern/classic/simple country feel..with stainless appliances of course. I did not want oak cabinets, but with oak floors it makes sense. it’s a starter house and resale is everything..what do people like?

What color and/or kind of kitchen backsplash should I get with dark cherry cabinets & madura gold granite?

I have dark cherry kitchen cabinets with madura gold granite countertops. The combination of the two makes my kitchen very red. Is there a kitchen backsplash that would take attention away from the reddish color that I have. My style is traditional and I have a SW Believable Buff paint on the walls. Thanks in advance!

Remodeling kitchen and changing it to have an island. Counter, backsplash, flooring: How to coordinate? Read..

My kitchen has an odd floorplan. It is open to a sitting room and has an eat-in area, but it has a half wall and strange line dividing carpet and tile.

I’m doing away with the eat-in area and adding a very large island. I am doing granite countertops that continue to become the backsplash. I will do a different kind of granite on the floor, or maybe ceramic tile.

My question is: Should I match the huge island with the floor or with the counter & backsplash? I’m worried the island, counter and backsplash all the same will be overkill. Opinions?

The sitting room will have carpet. Wood flooring is not an option, it is what I am removing.
