Do we really need to install cement backing when installing MARBLE tile on PAINTED drywall?
We have drywall in our kitchen that was painted with a smooth semi-gloss paint a good 8 yrs ago. We’d like to install 3"x6" tumbled marble as a backsplash over the drywall. It’s about 1/4" thick so probably slightly heavier than say, the tiny square glass tiles that come on a 12"x12" netting. One person at the Home Depot said we could just sand and scrape up the drywall and then apply the thinset and install the marble. Another said we might want to use a cement backing. We aren’t really DIYers and would so we don’t want to create extra work with the cement backing if it isn’t needed. That said, we don’t want the drywall to start peeling and the marble tiles to start falling off after a short amount of time.
Please advise. Thank you!
Cutting glass tile?
I’m installing a backsplash comprised 1" x 1" glass tiles. They are 8mm thick and have a colored backing to them. I’m concerned about how to go about making sure I get a clean cut without screwing up the colored backing. Can I still score and snap these tiles or do I need a wet saw?
electrical outlets after backsplash installation?
I’m about to tile my kitchen backsplash with glass tiles and was wondering how to deal with the electrical outlets. they will not be flush with the wall after the job is done. how do you make them flush and still be with code? longer screws? box extenders maybe? spacers? info much appreciated!
Doing kitchen remodel. How do I lay a glass tile countertop starting from scratch. Nothing but cabinets =)?
Right now there is nothing but cabinetry. We gutted the kitchen from top to bottom. We want to lay glass tile for the countertop and backsplash but everywhere I read says glass tiles lay best on concrete. How do I build the base and lay concrete for the countertops? What supplies are needed? And is it true, I NEED concrete in order to lay the tiles or are there options that will last just as long?
Can anyone recommend a nice glass tile that would match well with an uba tuba granite countertop?
We’re replacing our backsplash and some wall tiles and we’re thinking of using glass tiles. The countertops will be uba tuba granite so we thought glass might look nice. Any recommendations (with photos if possible) would be much appreciated. If you don’t recommend glass a recommendation on ceramic or other tiles would also be helpful.
Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas-**glass tile kitchen backsplash**?
We have ordered some 2×2 opque glass tiles on a 12×12 mesh backing for our backsplash. We have a 10 inch wet saw and a reg. diamond blade for ceramic tile. We have been told this will not work on glass tile. What blade do we need? We have never tiled but my husband was a homebuilder for years. We have also heard we cannot cut curves with glass tile. Is this true We will need a few curves cut for one small area. We are planning on installing over primed and painted drywall. Will this be a problem? We need some advice. Thanks
Can I install a glass tile backsplash directly onto my wall?
I recently got some really nice glass tile in a barter, and would like to install as a back splash in my kitchen. I haven’t installed glass tile before, so I looked up the instructions online. One set of instructions cautioned that I should only install onto backerboard, not onto the bare wall, but none of the other instructions mentioned this.
So, is it really necessary to install onto backerboard? I don’t have a work area to cut it, and it will definitely need to be cut, as the area is irregular with outlets, windows, etc. Total area of the space to be tiled is less than 10 feet. Is there anything else that I could do to prepare the wall, if some sort of extra prep is needed (other than the standard instructions, and in place of using backerboard).
Thanks!
Glass tiles are 1inch mosiac tiles on paper sheets. Forgot to mention!
