Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas: kitchen backsplash installation / wall prep?
Hi. I would like to install a glass tile backsplash in my kitchen (tiling over drywall). In one area, there is about a 2′ section that dips in – deepest gap between wall and counter is in the middle (around 1/2") but then evens out a foot or so in each direction. How can I correct this? Should I use all-purpose joint compound to true up the wall then tile over that? Or maybe use more thinset in that area when tiling? Any help/recommendations would be very helpful. Thanks!
How much is the labor cost for the installation of glass tile?
We had the following glass tile installed in our bathroom:
- Shower walls 60 sqft. with a 4×4 glass tile
- Backsplash 12 sqft with a 3×6 glass tile
- shelf in front of the mirrors 3.5 sqft with a 4×4 glass tile
We provided all of the materials and now got a bill for ,900 in pure labor. We live in the Los Angeles area. For not even three days of work this seems a little steep.
Can anybody let me know if this bill is justified or how much it should be?? I read somewhere labor for glass tile should be no more than /sft. Please help!!
Grout on Glass Tile…………??
Well I grouted my glass tile backsplash today and let it dry, now it is ready to be cleaned off, but i am completely exhausted! can i clean it off tomorrow or will it be too late? grout container said to let it dry for 4 hrs before cleaning off with a dry cloth. yeah right, a dry cloth does not do the trick. only a damp linen cloth used to scrub each individual little tile gets the haze and bits of left over grout off and that is going to literally take me all night. so can i do that tomorrow or do i need to pull an all nighter???
Kitchen Tile Backsplash ideas:Mosaic Backsplash on Drywall (Kitchen backsplash ideas)?
I plan on installing a stained glass tile backsplash in my kitchen. The surface between my cabinets and countertop is painted drywall. I would like to put up something on top of the drywall to apply the tile to so if I or future owners of my house want to remove the backsplash they can do so without damaging the drywall. I’m hoping to use something very thin because there are areas of the backsplash that won’t be under the cabinets so the top edge of the backing material will be visible. Any ideas?
How far up from the counter do you put glass tile backsplash in the kitchen?
I am going to have a small kitchen in my new house. I am going to put glass tile backsplash above all counter space, which is on one side of the rectangular kitchen. I am not sure how far up I should put the backsplash from the counter to the cabinets. The backsplash is 12" x 12". I would like it to be decorative, but not overdone.
Should I just do 1 sheet all the way across of the 12" x 12" with the exception of the stove area so you can see the paint/wall, go all the way up to the cabinets, or do half a sheet?
Also, at the stove area, should I go all the way up to the vent?
I know it is probably a personal preference, but I would like some advice. I can’t actually find any pics of 1/2 wall tiled, only full wall space on the net. The tile I am using is at the link below and I am using Palm Leaf SW 7735 colored paint from Sherwin Williams.

When I said the tile all the way across the counter area with the exception of the stove area, I just meant because it would probably go higher than the other areas due to it being the cooking area. But as stated, I was still unsure if I should put that all the way up to the range hood.
How do you protect glass tile backsplashes?
I’m installing a custom glass tile backsplash in my kitchen and want to know if there is some type of film or sealant to put on the area behind the stove. I want to protect it from heat and oil while cooking.
How do you extend electrical outlets to be flush with glass tile backsplash.?
I am installing a mosaic glass tile backsplash in my kitche. There are 3 electrical outlets along with 1 light switch that I need to tile around. I am looking on how to extend the outlets out so they are flush with the tile once the backsplash is completed so the face plates fit on. Any ides?
