kitchen countertops or backsplash first??
I am gonna do the backsplash myself. I’m replacing the formica countertop with granite–will be done by professional. The countertop has a 2" edge that sits against the wall. My new countertops will not have that edge. So… until my new countertops get here can I remove the formica top & start in on my backsplash?
Can I use ceiling tile for a kitchen backsplash?
I spend more time in my kitchen than I do anywhere else in my home. I want to spruce up my 60’s green kitchen before I return to teaching in August. I want to replace the current white and green marble formica backsplash with tin ceiling tile. Is this possible?
I have found a distributor that has 2′ x 2′ sections for .25 in the steel color I want. I am using steel because it is basic for the colors I have picked and will blend well. I don’t know whether to use the nail up or drop in. I thinking nail up with cornices. The backsplash will cover the area around my countertops and the back of the stove.
Kitchen Backsplash?
Having HomeDepot install the countertops. Do I install the tile backsplash before they do that or after.
Also can i Install the tiles on the backsplash on the wile straight or do i need to put some sort or hardibacker over it first. If i do this wont the backsplash stick out too much?
Thanks for any help

kitchen update.. need colour and remodel help!?
i am a bit of a country woman at heart and the rest of my home is slightly neutral colours and i want my kitchen to be warm and inviting. the current colours are powdery blue walls, warm slate gray countertops and white cabinets. the cabinets are falling apart and have cheap grey handles which match the countertop. the floor is white and blue tiles that i would love to replace with ceramic but cannot afford it. can anyone suggest colours for the walls and an alternate flooring possibilty and maybe backsplash ideas. we have white appliances as well.
also need a way to repair the countertop hopefully not replacing it as we have limited funds entering this project.
thank you.
also a tip for fixing/replacing the doors and drawers is helpful. they are falling apart.
Does anybody have any experience with High Definition laminate countertops?
My son and his wife are remodeling their kitchen and are having a dilemma…..they’re on a tight budget and are at the point of purchasing the countertops. They found a gorgeous laminate countertop from Wilsonart. It’s called High Definition, but hasn’t been on the market long. It has a very rich granite look and is very eye catching. They also found a Dealer for a Solid Surface Corian that is very close in price (without the upgrades such as edging and backsplash) to the HD laminate they picked out.
What I would like to know is if anyone has this HD laminate and if they are happy with it? Where there any problems with the product? I can’t find any feedback on this product anywhere!
When comparing to two products, the High Definition Laminate is visually more appealing than the Corian but everything I’ve read so far suggests the Corian is better for resale and durability. I’m hoping that someone has had some experience with the HD Laminate and can provide some insight????
Ideas for kitchen theme?
We are going to start remodeling our kitchen this weekend and I need some ideas for decoration. The cabinets will be white with black countertops and the floor is black and white checkers. We are putting a silver backsplash and have black appliances. Oh and the walls are almost white, but just a little off. We have alot of empty wallspace and I need stuff to put there. I would like to have some sort of a theme but I don’t really know what. Any ideas? Thanks!!
Simple kitchen backsplash Ideas :New Countertops were Installed?
Not sure if this is within your realm, but since you know plastering, maybe it is. In a rental unit I have, the tenants want me to replace the kitchen backsplash, since new countertops were installed. They have come up with this idea that the lady at the house there wants to tackle at her expense and labor. She has, or intends to buy, some glass type of stone, if you will. They are about a one inch circular stone with flat side to it. I have seen these in items like aquariums, vases with flowers, or just something you see people using for decoration in something. Anyway, shes real handy at projects and this is what she wants to do: The existing backsplash has a small 1×3 tile there now. She wants to, with each piece of those glasslike stones, dab a bit of glue to each one, glue it to the existing backsplash, at various areas, and then plaster over it all, wiping off excess plaster and making the stone deep set into the plaster, with only a bit of the stone protruding beyond the plaster. I almost like the idea of how it would look, however, Im not sure of two things. What glue to use and what type of plaster or material to cover this with. Is this something you can give me some idea on? Thanks
Help me with colors for backsplash…need pictures.?
Due to some water damage we have had to completely re-do our kitchen. I made some decisions based on the fact that our floors, which were all white ceramic tile were not going to have to be replaced. Our kitchen is VERY small. Probably around 10 x 11. So, with the white floors I didn’t want dark cabinets b/c I was afraid that it would make the room look smaller. So, I decided on some cabinets that were sage green. I got a contemporary looking cabinet face with brushed nickel pulls. We are getting stainless appliances. I am going to get a charcoal/blackish tile countertop. The tiles are 12 x 12 and look really nice with a dark grout. I really could care less about granite and really can’t afford it anyway. They ended up having to replace my floors after I had already ordered the green cabinets. So, I got white with just a hint of marbled gray in there. I have read that dark countertops with white floors are really in right now and I think it will look really sharp. I want to do a nice backsplash…was considering just getting white subway tiles. I am trying to tie together the colors of the kitchen together with the backsplash. So, I have white, dark grey/black and sage green. I was thinking of using the white subway tiles with some small green glass pieces mixed in. Does anyone have any thoughts or pictures they can share that will help me. It’s so hard to visualize this stuff without having seen it first. I am so bad at this. Thanks!
