Tin Backsplashes in the kitchen?
I am considering a backsplash made from tin tiles usually used for ceilings. I wanted something pretty and I thought about ceramic tile, but a lot of people have that and frankly I didn’t want the mess and expense of installing one. I found a tin ceiling manufacturer online. Does anyone have any comments or experience with using tin ceiling tiles as a kitchen backsplash?
Thanks!
I’ve priced tile versus ceramic and ceramic (including backer board and grout) is much more expensive. The ceiling tiles do not require grout or backer board. I can install the tin tiles for under 0.
The tiles are also coated to protect against rust and are finished so they are not shiney, but are white while still maintaining the tin ceiling look.
The more I think about them the more excited I am to try it out. For less than 0 if it is something I do not like I can easily change it later without feeling too guilty about the money I’ve spent.
Thanks for you ideas!!
What makes a good servicable counter backsplash in a kitchen? ?
I love ceramic tile but think that might be too big of a project for me as I have no experience. Paint gets grease spattered as would wallpaper. I just can’t think of an easy, reasonable cost solution.
I have a question on how to do the backsplash in my kitchen?
I have ceramic tile done in the "diamond" pattern on the floor (13"x13"). I am not sure whether to do the backsplash (6 1/2 x 6 1/2) in the "diamond" pattern as the floor is or to go the opposite and do the "square" pattern. I’m afraid I’ll get too much of the diamond pattern (if I go that way) but am not sure. Does anyone out there already have this done, and if so, which is better? Thank you.
Backsplash for kitchen needs to be replaced. Any ideas?
The kitchen really needs to be totally remodled, but we have not decided to stay here long enough to justify the cost. So expensive ceramic tile is out. I read that vinyl peel and stick tile will work, but I am concerned about cleaning it.
Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas: Travertine Tile Installation?
lan to install 18X18 travertine as kitchen backsplash over existing sheetrock. Have some experience with ceramic tile in flooring and backsplash.
Should I use thinset or mastic to bond the tiles to the sheetrock?
For the bonding material recommended, what size trowel notch?
How close can I install the tiles to each other, i.e., how thin can I make the grout lines?
I suspect travertine is more fragile than ceramic. How much trouble will I have cutting openings for switches, etc? What is the best way to cut these openings?
Reinforcing wall around pre-formed shower?
I am remodeling a condo, and have a question about the bathroom. The condo is older, 1979 to be exact and while the guest bathroom was upgraded to fabulous through-out tile, the master still seems to be mostly the original. There is a pre-formed shower that appears to be new. However, the wall above the pre-form is slightly weak. It’s nothing worthy of a bulldoze lol I was told it appears to be drywall because wet-wall was not standard at the time the condo was built.
So, my question is: what is a tactful way I could reinforce the wall above the pre-formed shower? I’m not interested in ripping out the entire shower. I was considering a tile trim, but I’d like other suggestions before taking on that project. I’m thinking a backsplash sort of technique. Anything not quite as tedious as ceramic tile, but still effective, would be great.
Help me with colors for backsplash…need pictures.?
Due to some water damage we have had to completely re-do our kitchen. I made some decisions based on the fact that our floors, which were all white ceramic tile were not going to have to be replaced. Our kitchen is VERY small. Probably around 10 x 11. So, with the white floors I didn’t want dark cabinets b/c I was afraid that it would make the room look smaller. So, I decided on some cabinets that were sage green. I got a contemporary looking cabinet face with brushed nickel pulls. We are getting stainless appliances. I am going to get a charcoal/blackish tile countertop. The tiles are 12 x 12 and look really nice with a dark grout. I really could care less about granite and really can’t afford it anyway. They ended up having to replace my floors after I had already ordered the green cabinets. So, I got white with just a hint of marbled gray in there. I have read that dark countertops with white floors are really in right now and I think it will look really sharp. I want to do a nice backsplash…was considering just getting white subway tiles. I am trying to tie together the colors of the kitchen together with the backsplash. So, I have white, dark grey/black and sage green. I was thinking of using the white subway tiles with some small green glass pieces mixed in. Does anyone have any thoughts or pictures they can share that will help me. It’s so hard to visualize this stuff without having seen it first. I am so bad at this. Thanks!
Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas-**glass tile kitchen backsplash**?
We have ordered some 2×2 opque glass tiles on a 12×12 mesh backing for our backsplash. We have a 10 inch wet saw and a reg. diamond blade for ceramic tile. We have been told this will not work on glass tile. What blade do we need? We have never tiled but my husband was a homebuilder for years. We have also heard we cannot cut curves with glass tile. Is this true We will need a few curves cut for one small area. We are planning on installing over primed and painted drywall. Will this be a problem? We need some advice. Thanks
Remodeling kitchen and changing it to have an island. Counter, backsplash, flooring: How to coordinate? Read..
My kitchen has an odd floorplan. It is open to a sitting room and has an eat-in area, but it has a half wall and strange line dividing carpet and tile.
I’m doing away with the eat-in area and adding a very large island. I am doing granite countertops that continue to become the backsplash. I will do a different kind of granite on the floor, or maybe ceramic tile.
My question is: Should I match the huge island with the floor or with the counter & backsplash? I’m worried the island, counter and backsplash all the same will be overkill. Opinions?
The sitting room will have carpet. Wood flooring is not an option, it is what I am removing.
