kitchen countertops or backsplash first??
I am gonna do the backsplash myself. I’m replacing the formica countertop with granite–will be done by professional. The countertop has a 2" edge that sits against the wall. My new countertops will not have that edge. So… until my new countertops get here can I remove the formica top & start in on my backsplash?

Kitchen BackSplash Ideas – KITCHEN BACKSPLASH TILING?
HI ,
THIS IS MY FIRST TILE PROJECT. I AM INSTALLING A BACKSPLASH ON SHEETROCK USING 4.5"X4.5" PORCELAIN TILES. USING OMNIGRIP MASTIC APPLIED WITH A 1/4" X 3/16" V-NOTCH TROWEL. THE TILES HAVE A WAFFLE BACK. MY CONCERN IS DO I HAVE TO FILL IN THE WAFFLE DEPRESSIONS,WHICH SEEM TO BE 1/16" DEEP,BY BACK BUTTERING PRIOR TO APPLYING TILE TO COMBED MASTIC. ALSO, IS THE TROWEL SIZE CORRECT?
P.S. WHY DO SOME TILES HAVE A WAFFLED BACK AND SOME A PRACTICALLY FLAT BACK?
THANKS!
can you install glass tile onto drywall?
My husband is installing my backsplash in my kitchen and has done floors forever. He is new to backsplashes. Can he install the tile straight onto the drywall as long as it is clean and dry? And what is the best glue to use?
Can I use ceiling tile for a kitchen backsplash?
I spend more time in my kitchen than I do anywhere else in my home. I want to spruce up my 60’s green kitchen before I return to teaching in August. I want to replace the current white and green marble formica backsplash with tin ceiling tile. Is this possible?
I have found a distributor that has 2′ x 2′ sections for .25 in the steel color I want. I am using steel because it is basic for the colors I have picked and will blend well. I don’t know whether to use the nail up or drop in. I thinking nail up with cornices. The backsplash will cover the area around my countertops and the back of the stove.
Tooled (faux) leather as kitchen backsplash?
I am decorating an office building. The theme throughout is a mixture of cowboy, santa fe, and indian art. There is a kitchen in the office and I am thinking of doing the backsplash with faux tooled leather fabric. It looks and pretty much feels like leather, but it is fake. They sell it on a bolt (roll) at Hobby Lobby. The kitchen is rarely used. I was also thinking of covering the chair seats with the same material. I am planning on doing one wall (the one you look at as you enter the kitchen) with the torn up brown kraft paper to make it look like ‘faux suede’ and then paint the other walls a contrasting color….maybe a sienna or barn red?
Any suggestions on colors? Or do you think the faux tooled leather would be a good backsplash?
Thanks for your input!
Simple Kitchen Backsplash Ideas: Want a Backsplash on the Wall Behind the Cooktop?
Hi, we are having our kitchen remodeded and I want a backsplash on the wall behind the cooktop. The area is about 84×18 in. Our contractor insists that if I want the wall tiles there, I must have them on all the other wall spaces in the kitchen where there is no cabintery. That will not only be too expensive, but also I dont want that much color in the kitchen(I ve chosen a bright wall tile). Please tell me if I am doing something totally wrong by getting the wall tiles only behind the cooktop

Remodeling TOGETHER . . .?
1st let me say that my husband & I get along great & are best friends UNLESS . . . we have to work on a project together. We almost killed each other moving into this house & the D word even came up which we laugh about today but it was not good. So now we’re remodeling the kitchen (flooring, countertops, new sink, backsplash) and he thinks it would be a GREAT idea to do this together. I’m a planner & researcher while he jumps right in & then the cussing & slamming ensues. Maybe a little odd for a girl but I actually used to lay tile for a living. Anyway our neighbor quoted us 00 for labor so we need to buy all the materials and do the demo ourselves which in itself is going to lead to some heated arguments I would suspect. How can I get him to go with the neighbor without hurting his feelings or making him feel like I don’t trust his work or ability? I’m the one paying for it anyway so he’s not coming out of pocket for any of this. He’s just trying to save me some money and do a project together. Or should I just be honest about the reason & tell him we simply don’t get along & I see bad things coming out of this? He’s so excited about it ![]()
It’s not about the colors or design ideas. He trusts me completely with that. It’s the actual work. He turns into a demon & starts screaming at me if something goes wrong on his end. Like he’ll break something or screw something up really bad & then yell at me because he’s frustrated.
Okay maybe I need to develop a better sense of humor about this then. I guess it’s because he works from home & gets bored sometimes so a project is really fun for him while I work constantly & a project for me is just added stress & time I don’t have. I do love the man though LOL!!
