Tin Backsplashes in the kitchen?
I am considering a backsplash made from tin tiles usually used for ceilings. I wanted something pretty and I thought about ceramic tile, but a lot of people have that and frankly I didn’t want the mess and expense of installing one. I found a tin ceiling manufacturer online. Does anyone have any comments or experience with using tin ceiling tiles as a kitchen backsplash?
Thanks!
I’ve priced tile versus ceramic and ceramic (including backer board and grout) is much more expensive. The ceiling tiles do not require grout or backer board. I can install the tin tiles for under 0.
The tiles are also coated to protect against rust and are finished so they are not shiney, but are white while still maintaining the tin ceiling look.
The more I think about them the more excited I am to try it out. For less than 0 if it is something I do not like I can easily change it later without feeling too guilty about the money I’ve spent.
Thanks for you ideas!!
That’s a great creative idea. I would put them above a standard 4 inch splash of something else though. Tin is very shine until you touch it, finger prints cause it to oxidize rapidly. I’m guessing it would be hard to clean.
I am not sure using those tiles would be any less expensive. There is a lot that goes into installing a back splash. Another reason you would be better off with the ceramic tile is the mortar you would use to install the tiles. Ceiling tiles normally use a different type of installation. However, it may work. I guess it depends on what is really important to you and if installing the ceiling tile would be compatable.
cleaning the tin won’t be easy. and the money you spend on it you wil have to keep it for life
Rust, rust, rust, that is the problem. Stainless steel is the only practical metal backsplash and that is not easy to install.
